Project-Based Learning and the Environment

A year ago, I was dragged into a project very reluctantly by my principal and a PTO parent.  I have a hard time saying no, and no one else on our campus would take on the project.  So as usual, I jumped in with both feet and started researching what I'd gotten myself into.  It happened to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my teaching career. The project was Disney Planet Challenge, which focuses on environmental project-based learning for K-8 grades. Disney keeps revising and refining the process to make it a great opportunity for those of you who are tree-huggers like me, love having the community involved, and believe in real-life applications to keep your students involved and engaged. My class ended up being the winners for the State of Arizona and the students couldn't have been prouder of their accomplishments. Check out Disney Planet Challenge's webpage and let me know what you think! Heidi
