Daily G.L.O.W. - Would You Rescue the Books?

Globicate, Heidi Befort, Daily G.L.O.W.
If you asked most people where Gao, Mali was, they'd have to think long and hard or guess.  Well Gao, Mali is located on the African continent near its western borders.  Along with many other African countries, its history has been spotted with civil uprising and war of different factions for many years trying to gain control. Gao's infrastructure and schools tend to take the brunt of the destruction that comes when people want to take over a country.  In the latest chapter, a brave teacher (Read her interview) and her students take that extra step to continue their education under unusual and difficult conditions.

My question to you, would you rescue the books to help your students? Would you continue to go to school or teach under adverse conditions such as war?

G.L.O.W.  - Gao, Mali
Gao sits on the banks of the Niger River and hails before the Songhay Empire.

Gao people speak mostly Songhay but includes many ethnicities, including the Bozo (traditionally nomadic river dwellers), Fulfulde/Fulani cattle keepers, and Tuareg nomads, as well as Bambara peoples from western Mali.

Keep The Focus On Verbs!

Got an IPad and now not sure what to do with it or how to use it in the classroom?  Well, I came across this informative article today about Why (Not How) We Should Use iPads In Education. They discuss the fact that there are so many apps out there, it's sometimes hard to know where to start.  They've created a chart to keep the verb in focus when engaging your students.  The chart, "I want my students to..." is broken down into several categories and each one is linked to a page that then shows you several apps to get your students using the IPad to learn.  Check out and let me know what you think!
